Linaclotide works by increasing the secretion of chloride and water in the intestines, which can soften stools and stimulate bowel movements. Linaclotide is used to treat chronic constipation, or chronic irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in people who have had constipation as the main symptom. Linaclotide may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

What is the dosage for Linaclotide? The dose for treating IBS with constipation is 290 mcg once daily, and the dose for treating chronic idiopathic constipation is 145 mcg once daily. Linaclotide should be taken on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before the first meal of the day.
